Jay called me in a rush for some pictures this last week. He was in a crunch to get a good photo for his book coming out in a little while. so we went to a studio and spent about 2 hours and came up with a good handful of images to pull from. This picture was the choice for the front cover. What do you think?
It was fun to do a shoot for my Uncle Jay and I wish him all the best with his book release.

That's a great shot of Jay, Brandon. It shows us the guy he is today....so put together, yet he has a nice casual style...with a ready smile. Nice job. (Are you going to share the other photos?!??! :::WINK:::)
Should be looking up with eyes open.
Honestly, don't really like it. It looks too staged/posed - especially with him looking down. Any chance of seeing other photos to see what the variety was???
It's a very nice photo but doesn't remind me of the Jay we know and love. With him looking down it doesn't quite connect or fully capture his very special spirit that so strongly radiates in person.
I love his eyes and I'd rather have seen a snapshot of him making a "connection" with his readers by looking up at us. :) Or even one of him in comfy, casual attire. But as "toll house cookie" said, this IS Jay....and you've captured him as you know him best ;)
Looking forward to seeing the other photos you took of him (I HOPE), but equally excited to get to read a book from his perspective! Thanks Brandon....another fanastic photograph!!
I thought the shot was excellent. Jay is the sweetest guy, very confident yet can come across as somewhat shy at times. His humble attitude is very apparent in this shot - I get the feeling I just ran into him at church and cracked him up with a comment about his talk! Pure Jay on the cover.
I have mixed feelings about the photo, I would really like to see his eyes, but at the same time, if the book reflects his spiritual views, than you have definately captured the true sweet, humble, caring, Jay we all know and love.
Thank you for your comments and I really am aware of the whole love of Jay's eyes and the connection that has with a viewer. As far as I understand the back cover is a closeup of his face with his eyes if that makes you feel any better.
You have to understand that this was a publishers decision but I did suggest this one for the cover because of the un-staged feel of this photo. I will put more photos up soon.
Thanks, Brandon....your work is amazing and I trust your professional, creative input meant alot :) Looking forward to seeing much more of your work. Hugs!
I love the photo! Can't wait for more.
I love your work and often check in as I am trying to improve my photography. I first saw the photo on another site and didn't know you took the photo and loved it from the beginning. I feel that it is unstaged, not posed. It gives the feeling of just having "captured the moment"
Well, I LIKE IT!!! Jay's humble heart is reflected through that warm,
boyish smile of his. He looks relaxed at this "Stage" of his life...Great Job, Brandon!
awesome job on Uncle Jay's photos hope we can see some more of your work in the book. Can't wait to read his story

Lovely shot. Not quite casual ... it isn't quite spontaneous and it isn't quite posed ... it is a bit disconcerting.
Hey Brandon! Love your work that I was just looking at. Great job. Don't care for the picture of Jay for the book cover though. I agree that his eyes should be open. Sorry, you asked. ;-) Can't wait to buy the book! Keep up the great photography!
I love the photo of Jay. It makes me wonder what he was thinking about or what was said to get that look. Great job Brandon!
